Directions to Parkdale Recreation Area

Meeting Place for Royal Gorge and Bighorn Sheep Canyon Trips

Parkdale Recreation Area is the meeting place for the second day of rafting when either the ROYAL GORGE or BIGHORN SHEEP CANYON is chosen for the second day of our Basic Two-Day Trip.

From Denver To Parkdale Recreation Area

Take I-25 south to Colorado Springs. At Colorado Springs, take exit 140B onto Highways 85 South and 115 South. Continue South on Highway 115 to Highway 50. Turn right (west) on Highway 50 through Canon City. On the west side of Canon City Highway 50 goes up a long, steep hill. Go over the hill, staying on Highway 50 (don't turn on the road to the Royal Gorge Bridge). At the bottom of the hill, Highway 50 crosses the Arkansas River. (This is the Parkdale Bridge and it is about ½ mile west of highway mile post 268).

From Boulder to Parkdale Recreation Area

Drive south on Broadway (Highway 93) from Boulder. On the west side of Golden, go STRAIGHT through the stoplight. Highway 93 becomes Highway 6 East and goes up a long hill. After two more stoplights, get in the right lane and exit onto Highway 470 (you are now driving south). Highway 470 curves east to intersect I-25 south. Take I-25 south and follow the directions above from Denver to Parkdale Bridge. An alternate route is to take Highway 36 to Denver. Take I-25 south through Denver and then follow directions above from Denver to Parkdale Bridge.
Driving Time: 3 to 3½ hours

From Colorado Springs to Parkdale Recreation Area

Drive south on Highway 115 to Highway 50. Turn right (west) on Highway 50 through Canon City. On the west side of Canon City Highway 50 goes up a long, steep hill. Go over the hill, staying on Highway 50 (don't turn on the road to the Royal Gorge Bridge). At the bottom of the hill, Highway 50 crosses the Arkansas River. (This is the Parkdale Bridge and it is about ½ mile west of highway mile post 268). About ¼ mile past the bridge, turn right (north) into the Parkdale Recreation Area. STOP at the Self-Service Parks Pass Station and buy a Daily Parks Pass for $6.00 per car.
